A police officer has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a 19-year-old man at the Kiandai shopping centre in Gichugu, Kirinyaga County.
The officer, who works at Kianyaga police station, is currently being held while investigations continue.
The incident has caused outrage in the local community.

Angry family members, led by the deceased’s aunt Sicily Wangu, and Kiandai residents stormed the Kianyaga police station, demanding an explanation for the shooting.
“We have been told Derrick was killed by police officers from this station, and we want to know why,” Wangu stated.
Jane Muthoni, the deceased’s grandmother, wailed uncontrollably after seeing her grandson’s body.
She stated that she had been living with the deceased since his mother died in 2008.
“Derrick Gachoki completed form four last year and I had been taking care of him. Why have they decided to take his life?” Muthoni asked.
